Aerials

Aerial views form part of a body of work exhibited in two solo exhibitions - "Perspectives" (<SITE> Gallery, Winnipeg, 2004) and "Footprints" (Xchanges Gallery, Victoria, 2005).

I am drawn to landscape for its sense of peacefulness, order and aesthetic harmony. My interest in aerial views came about through years of travel, mostly between England and Canada. There is an intriguing ambiguity about the patterns seen from such an altitude. For me, 'mapping' represents the idea of tracking personal and family histories, of people separated by geographical distance. These maps/aerial depictions represent life journeys and relationships. I explore the balance and tension that is found between nature and the built environment, between people, within nature itself, and in the influence we have on the natural environment.
